On Wednesday 18 October, Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen launched the draft Master Plan for the South Tees Development Corporation (STDC). The 25-year plan sets out STDC’s ambitious, game-changing regeneration goals for the area and marks the start of a public consultation period.
Keen to ensure our members are informed about the exciting prospects, and influence the consultation to make sure businesses benefit from these opportunities, NEPIC will hold an industry consultation event at The Wilton Centre on Thursday 23 November.
We will be joined by members of the STDC team who will outline the draft Master Plan and, during a roundtable discussion, seek members’ views on the plans for submission to the Board.
NEPIC chief executive, Iain Wright, commented:
“The regeneration of the old SSI site is the single biggest industrial opportunity in the UK for decades. NEPIC fully supports the South Tees Development Corporation’s vision and ambition, which has the potential to transform the entire local economy, providing substantial numbers of well-paid jobs and modern and innovative manufacturing facilities that could compete with anywhere on earth.
“The purpose of the consultation is to help shape the strategy for the next 25 years. NEPIC members could use the opportunity to be informed about the exciting prospects and influence the consultation to help make the most of those opportunities for their own businesses.
“Following the devastating loss of SSI and the vandalism this caused to the local economy and employment base, this is a chance to transform the area and build good jobs and successful businesses. I hope that NEPIC members help shape the future.”
