Alfanar is a privately owned, global company, headquartered in Saudi Arabia, with over 45 years of experience in manufacturing, integrated development, engineering, construction, operation and maintenance across a variety of sectors. It has over 20,000 employees across 24 countries.
With a global renewable power development portfolio of 2.5 GW, Alfanar’s Global Development Division is now focused on decarbonising the transportation sector. This includes the hard-to-decarbonise sectors such as aviation. Alfanar currently has renewable fuels projects under development across the globe, including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), green hydrogen and green ammonia.
Alfanar's Lighthouse Green Fuels (LGF) project, located in Billingham, Stockton-on-Tees, is the UK’s largest and most advanced second-generation SAF project. It will process over one million tonnes of feedstock annually—including waste wood and forest residues—to produce 135,000 tonnes of SAF. The facility will also utilise local carbon capture infrastructure to achieve up to 200% lifecycle emissions savings compared to fossil jet fuel.
LGF will play a key role in decarbonising the UK’s aviation sector, strengthening its leadership in SAF production, and boosting regional economic growth by creating over 2,000 construction jobs and 240 permanent roles.
