With the UK leaving the EU, ATEX certification for lighting has been replaced by the ‘UKCA’ mark for manufacturers selling hazardous area products into the UK.
Raytec have been working closely with their UK notified body, Eurofins CML to ensure certificates are constantly updated to the latest edition of the standards for all hazardous area lighting in their range. This has allowed Raytec to be one of the first to obtain UKCA certificate numbers.
These will be incorporated into SPARTAN luminaires and hazardous area lighting products over the coming weeks with 3 certificate numbers included on each label – ATEX, IEC Ex and UKCA – allowing the same luminaire to be used worldwide.
Why are these changes important?
While there’s a period of grace to obtain the new UKCA certification, until 01/01/22, many end users will begin to insist that products must conform to the new UKCA certification as soon as possible.
One of the main criteria behind obtaining the new UKCA certification is that products must be approved to the latest editions of the EN60079 standards.
Products still using ATEX certificates may have been certified against editions of the standards that could be over 15 years old – with many major changes to the standards in that time, these products may struggle to meet the latest criteria.
