As commercial law firm, Square One Law marks its 10-year anniversary it is delighted to announce a series of promotions and new appointments to its team.

Ian Gilthorpe, senior partner said:

“Ten years ago in 2011, it was another uncertain time as the country was in a deep recession due to the severe banking crisis, but we saw an opportunity to develop a leaner, more agile type of law firm.

“It meant investing our time to gain a real understanding of our clients’ businesses then develop a culture that would provide outstanding, personalised service and add real value. And that’s the key – our people work as a team and deliver something different and something special.”

Teamwork is a huge part of Square One Law and I am delighted to say that all our people responded to the challenge that the pandemic brought to businesses and continued to provide excellent support and service delivery to our clients.

These promotions are extremely well deserved – Eleanor Wilkinson (Employment) and Vicky Lowrie (Litigation) have been promoted to partner, and Hayley Davidson (Corporate) and Francesca Lilley (Employment) to associate.”

Eleanor Wilkinson said:

“Square One Law has provided many fantastic opportunities to develop my career and I’m delighted to be part of the firm’s future at such an exciting time.”

Vicky Lowrie commented:

“I’m delighted with my promotion. Square One Law is a fantastic place to work and I enjoy being able to support our clients through complex property and commercial litigation.”

Ian Gilthorpe continued:

 “At the start of the pandemic we opened a new office in Leeds and it has become well established in the last year so we are extremely pleased to welcome to our property team, new partner Kate Johnson and new associate Merissa Galley.

Kate Johnson said:

“I was attracted to Square One Law because of its unequivocal commitment to client service and the way it places clients at the heart of everything it does.

“Everyone is committed to the one firm, one culture approach which I can see creates an energising and motivating environment in which to work.

“I am excited about helping to build the Leeds office from the strong platform which Matt Thompson has created over the last 12 months.”

Ian Gilthorpe concludes:

“Ten years ago when we took up the challenge to start a new law firm, we were 5 male partners.

“Now ten years on we have scaled up the firm with offices in Newcastle, Teesside and Leeds, have established an excellent client base, have grown to 18 partners and I’m delighted to say they are 50% women and men, with an outstanding managing partner in Gill Hall, so another step forward on the road to an inclusive and diverse workforce.”
