We hold the exclusive license for ‘Aqua Milling’, a class leading pipework cleaning system which has proven to reach longer lengths in pipework (12mm to 3m ID) and negotiate more bends than any other hose delivered water cleaning system in use today. Pipetech are successfully employed in onshore and offshore shutdowns, maintenance scopes and have experience in applying our systems to decommissioning projects.

We work with our partners to utilise multi-skilled teams thus reducing the number of people required.
We have utilised our technical cleaning solutions on over 600 offshore and onshore projects.

One of which we are extremely proud of: The Esso refinery at Fawley, near Southampton, is the largest in the UK and one of the most complex in Europe.

Situated on Southampton Water, it has a mile-long marine terminal that handles around 2,000 ship movements and 22 million tonnes of crude oil and other products every year.

The refinery processes around 270,000 barrels of crude oil a day and provides 20 per cent of UK refinery capacity.

Pipetech were selected by Esso Petroleum Ltd to clean and conduct several visual inspections along 1140m in total of pipework within the slurry line circuit, removing oil-based debris from the system during a planned six yearly shutdown process.

This was so successful that Pipetech were contracted once again by Esso Petroleum Ltd to carry out complex cleaning duties during the six-yearly shutdown.

In October and November 2018 Pipetech mobilised our specialist teams to execute the work scope over a 4-week period having already completed a number of pre-survey inspections onsite.

Key to the success of the Fawley refinery project was the planning and pre-engineering phase.

Pipetech were engaged early in the shutdown planning process and assigned a dedicated project manager and technical teams to survey the facility, plan and schedule all works related to a full shutdown industrial cleaning and inspection programme and, produced detailed work packs for each element of the project.

Pipetech used our Aqua Milling technology to successfully clean 1,237 meters of line varying in size from 2 to 14 inches diameter in the Cat fluid light ends and Fluid solid circuit.

Aqua Milling allowed a significant number of T pieces and bends to be negotiated, resulting in successfully cleaning the lines, of a thick, oily, tar. A total of 1.3 Tonnes of waste was removed over 28 access points.

The most noteworthy of all challenging pipework was the fluid ends line which consisted negotiating 10, 90 degree bends prior to successfully tackling up through a T-piece, whilst on nightshift with the pipework hidden by stacks of scaffolding.

Visual reports and video footage were then submitted for all pipework and unanimously approved by the client.

Pipetech returned to Exxon Mobil Fawley’s facility last year to carry out the following cleaning work:

• Inspection and Aqua Milling seawater header scope to exchangers E-002’s – 60m
• Inspection and Aqua Milling clean water system to include clean and camera inspection – 150m
• Inspection and Aqua Milling seawater header main – 70m
• Hot wash and waste removal – Box Cooler– HP Jet and waste management
• Inspection and Aqua Milling T4 Over flash – 150m
• Inspection and Aqua Milling Desalter Pipework – 20m.
