Parker Bioscience Filtration has welcomed six new apprentices to its Birtley, UK site, as part of its long-term commitment to workforce development.

The apprentices are being trained in a number of Parker’s business areas, including procurement, HR, finance, manufacturing and marketing, and the apprenticeships are being delivered in conjunction with several training providers.

Parker Bioscience Filtration is part of Parker Hannifin, the global leader in motion and control technologies.

Its long-running apprenticeship scheme has been developed to help apprentices to ‘earn, learn and qualify’ whilst preparing them with the foundations of a rewarding career in their chosen fields.

Dana Donnell is undertaking a Level 3 Procurement and Supply Assistant Apprenticeship at Parker Bioscience Filtration through training provider The Apprentice Team, Layla King-Lough is undertaking a Level 3 HR Support Apprenticeship – delivered by Sunderland College – with the Parker team, and Lola Haran is working towards a Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship at Parker Bioscience Filtration with training provider Kaplan.

Apprentices Max Turner and Adam Schrouder have both joined Parker Bioscience Filtration’s manufacturing team – they are studying for Level 2 Lean Manufacturing Operative Apprenticeships with Zenith Training.

In addition, Luke Dumigham is working with Parker’s marketing team while he undertakes a Level 3 Content Creator Apprenticeship with Zenith Training.

Laurent Pouchard, general manager at Parker Bioscience Filtration’s Birtley site, said: “We are delighted to welcome Dana, Layla, Lola, Max, Adam and Luke to Parker and we look forward to seeing them progress with their apprenticeships at our Birtley facility.

“We are proud to be working alongside training providers to provide apprenticeship opportunities for young people.”

Alison Rishworth, Human Resources Manager at Parker Bioscience Filtration in Birtley, added: “Our apprentices can build on their academic studies while gaining practical expertise in a state-of-the-art working environment, and use this experience as a launchpad for their future careers.

“Our apprenticeship programmes are designed to create a pipeline of talent for Parker and are integral to the growth and development of our workforce.”

Commenting on his apprenticeship, Luke Dumighan said: “Parker is a fortune 250 company with a major focus on future technologies. This apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity to progress my learning, develop my career and contribute to the future of Parker and its customers.”

Lola Haran added: “After starting my apprenticeship I could see how great a company Parker was to work for. I am enjoying developing new skills here.”

Max Turner said: “Parker has provided me with lots of opportunities to develop my understanding of how the business works, and it’s a welcoming working environment too.”

Parker is committed to STEM education and this year, Parker’s STEM ambassadors exhibited at STEMFest 2023, which was held at VERTU Motors Arena in Newcastle upon Tyne in July.

More than 3000 young people attended the event, which was created to showcase the range of careers and job roles available in the STEM sector, and encourage interest in STEM subjects. Parker’s STEM ambassadors spoke about the importance and role of filtration, and the work carried out at the Birtley site.

In addition, Parker’s Peer W Business Resource Group recently hosted a Girls In Engineering session with Cardinal Hume School in Gateshead, which was aimed to inspire interest in STEM subjects.
