With colleagues keen to come together to make a difference in their local communities, the NRL Group have dedicated 2021 to the year of giving back.

The Group, who provide Recruitment, Workforce Solutions and Contracting services to global engineering companies, have set out a 2021 calendar with branches and offices across their operations taking it in turn each month to support a local initiative.

Colleagues in their Heysham branch kicked off the challenge by fundraising together for St John’s Hospice, who provide palliative care treatment to residents in North Lancashire and the South Lakes.

Collecting unwanted Christmas trees using their paid charity days and putting their daily exercise to good use with a sponsored mile challenge – the team had collected up £573 in donations by the end of January.

Throughout February, NRL colleagues managing supplementary labour on the Keadby 2 power station construction site asked fellow workers on site to dig deep into their pockets to support local pre-school Epworth Thurlow who have been hit hard by the global pandemic.

With NRL promising to match donations generated on site, the fundraising drew in £735. Topped up with NRL’s commitment, the Keadby 2 project team were delighted to be able to present £1,750 to the staff and fundraising team at Epworth Thurlow and see first-hand how the money raised will go to good use.

Finally, as the first quarter of the year of giving drew to a close, UK and International recruitment colleagues based in NRL’s Woking branch picked up the baton in support of Your Sanctuary.

The local charity supports survivors of domestic abuse through their refuges, helpline and outreach work. In 2020 the charity supported 83 people in their refuges, which ignited an idea for a challenge to walk and run 83km each week during March to raise donations.

Exceeding their target each week, the team clocked up 1,073,966 steps in total, covering 838.95km – whilst donations generated £515 for the local charity, who recently opened a new 25-bedroom refuge to provide safety and sanctuary.

The Group’s fundraising aspirations show no sign of slowing down, with colleagues starting to put plans in place for their monthly fundraising activities as the year progresses.
