Former international business consultant and senior lecturer at Northumbria University Dr Dimitra Skoumpopoulou, said:
“Procurement teams across the region, and indeed around the world, have faced unprecedented supply chain challenges over the past six months as a result of the global pandemic.
“The new Supply Chain Leadership Professional Degree Apprenticeship enables organisations to upskill their workforce to successfully manage supply chains in today’s extraordinarily challenging environment and fast-changing digital economy.”
Dr Skoumpopoulou, continued:
“Whatever the business or sector, logistics and supply chain management is a vital business philosophy and management function.
“The damaging impact of Covid-19 has really demonstrated the need for businesses to continue to invest in the key skills required to effectively manage the web of national and international connections that make up complex supply chains.”
The new programme has been developed around the professional standards of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).
Areas of study include: global business environment and functions, inventory and transport management, applied logistics and supply chain management and sustainable supply chain management and risk.
Northumbria University is a leading degree apprenticeship training provider and was one of the first UK universities to offer government-supported degree apprenticeships.
Learning is based on real workplace activities and live projects to complement day-to-day operations.
By accessing levy payments or government funding, businesses can provide employees with a recognised and relevant qualification, with little extra cost to the organisation.
Dimitra Skoumpopoulou, added:
“Whether it is a new recruit or a current employee, this comprehensive programme provides opportunities for employers to develop their workforce whilst employees gain valuable new knowledge, skills and qualifications.”
