The contract award includes the design, engineering, fabrication and delivery of 8 No. modular buildings, including 2 No. x 220KV Modules, 2 No. x 66KV Modules, 2 No. x control rooms, and 2 No. x Refuge Modules.
The Moray West project is an 860MW offshore wind farm in the outer Moray Firth, located off the northeast coast of Scotland. The project will consist of 60-65 turbines, two offshore substations, and twin export cable circuits. The Moray West project is being developed by Ocean Winds and is planned to be operational in 2024.
This contract is MTE’s first major project which is fully fabricated at their new riverside facility, TSB (Tees Supply Base) located in Teesside.
MTE’s eight-acre fabrication and office facility will accommodate the company’s and client’s delivery teams – allowing MTE to deliver the project within a single site. The company’s supporting supply chain partners for the project are also positioned in close proximity which further enhances their capabilities.
MTE is thrilled to be part of this key project that contributes to reaching the UK Government’s target of increasing offshore wind power to 50GW by 2030.
Kevin Judson, Joint Managing Director said: “MTE are delighted to be working alongside our client Barrier Architectural to deliver this project on behalf of Siemens Energy Limited. Manufacturing of the eight modules is progressing well, with outfitting by Barrier to take place at TSB following module coating. Four of the eight modules are non-road transportable and will be loaded-out onto a barge or coaster for sea transport to Smulders Projects UK on the Tyne. The addition of this large facility to MTE’s portfolio has provided the ability to undertake coordinated, build, fit-out and load-out operations from a single site.
This is significant for MTE, certainly as the first major project to be fabricated at our new riverside facility which will showcase our improved capacity to manufacture large modules and other fabrications. The acquisition of this facility comes at a time Teesside is experiencing significant investment and MTE plan to be a key supplier to support surrounding industries through this period of growth.”
