Read more >You may call it micro expanded mesh, foil mesh, fine expanded mesh, mini mesh, small mesh… but to us, we call it micromesh and we manufacture it here in Hartlepool for uses across the process industries.
So why is micromesh used in process industries?
Micromesh has many beneficial qualities that are advantageous to the often harsh and demanding environments of the industry. One being, its availability in a range of materials such as stainless steel, copper, nickel and aluminium. And owing to its manufacturing process, of slitting and stretching with minimal waste produced, it offers economic yield of high value materials such as gold, silver and platinum.
The mesh apertures also offer benefits. Uniformly formed, available as raised or flattened, with no break in its structure they can allow the free and consistent flow of liquid, air and gas. The apertures also enable the mesh to provide a larger surface area than sheet metal, this can increase the energy density of the material. And when used in chemical processes the patterned surface delivers contact between the conductive micromesh and surrounding area.
In addition, micromesh retains all of the benefits of its larger form expanded metal mesh such as being inherently lightweight, with a high strength to weight ratio with no loose ends. And it is recyclable and sustainable by design.
What are the applications of micromesh in industry?
Given the description of micromesh you may already be able to envision its strong application in a range of processes and if you’re interested, our website shines a spotlight on some of these: https://www.expandedmetalcompany.com/products/micromesh
For now, here’s just a snapshot:
– Filtration – is flexible enough to suit a range of applications such as layered in filter panels or used as the support material of filter elements
– Electrolysis – is used as an electrolyzer in the production of chlor-alkali and hydrogen
– Flue gas denitrification – is used as the substrate material of SCR plates
– EMI Shielding – is used to provide EMI / FRI shielding of electronics
We’re currently working with a number of companies to explore additional applications of metal mesh where properties such as conductivity, lightweight, cost effective and sustainable are important.
