The global consulting firm deployed a new water treatment system earlier this year to support the Attawapiskat First Nation community, where historically low rainfall led to emergency conditions. The improved water quality has seen the end of a local drinking water advisory, in effect since 2007.
The project saw WSP clinch both the IChemE Water Award (sponsored by the Institute of Water) and the Outstanding Achievement in Chemical and Process Engineering Award (sponsored by ExxonMobil).
Other winners included:
BP International won two prizes, clinching the Process Automation and Digitalisation Award (sponsored by Chemicals Northwest) and the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award (sponsored by WSP);
PETRONAS lifted both the Process Safety Award (sponsored by PM Group) and the Oil and Gas Award (sponsored by ChemUK), the latter in partnership with Universiti Malaysia Terengganu;
And the University of Sheffield celebrated success in the Biopharma category (sponsored by Bouygues Energies & Services), whilst also winning the Business Start-Up Award (sponsored by Sellafield Ltd), in partnership with CCU International and AESSEAL
With more than 75 finalists across 16 categories, the Awards programme featured an international line-up of winners and highly commended entries, including entries from the USA, Saudi Arabia, Australia and China, reflecting the Institution’s international appeal and impact.
The IChemE Global Awards were presented at the Mercure Piccadilly Hotel in Manchester, UK. Now in their 30th year, the IChemE Global Awards are widely recognised as the world’s most prestigious chemical engineering awards.
