Read more >As we approach the end of 2024, one thing that stands out within the construction industry (and everything else) is that we want everything now, for less risk than ever before. We want projects delivered faster than ever before and we are not slowing down when asking for it.
To help ease the risk that inherently comes with construction projects (time, cost and quality) the real buzz word that is thrown into the majority of projects now is “collaboration” or being more “collaborative” in your approach. But are we asking suppliers to collaborate? Or to cooperate? Initially, I think you must ask yourself, what is the difference? And in our view –
Collaboration:
• Definition: Collaboration involves working together on a common project or goal, often with a deep level of interaction and shared responsibility.
Cooperation:
• Definition: Cooperation is the act of working together in a way that supports each other’s efforts, but not necessarily through joint, integrated work.
Now when you reflect on modern day construction procurement, if not set up correctly, it is almost impossible to be collaborative in your approach as it is incredibly rare to see agreements on deep levels of interaction or shared responsibility, clients aren’t advised on how to do this properly, its seen as risk! What modern construction procurement does clearly allow is for companies to work together, to a point, the point at which the contract allows. You will often see a larger “Tier 1” or similar that will ask suppliers to cooperate in working together, but once something isn’t quite right, the contract is pulled out and it is every man/woman/child for themselves.
And what does that difference mean? In being cooperative, it means we are unable to put the project first and develop sensible resolutions and instead join the game of Us (the client) vs Them (the contractor).
In summary,
How Wade Drives Collaboration
At Wade, collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. Here’s how we ensure it happens:
• Early Stakeholder Engagement: We involve all stakeholders from the outset, ensuring everyone has a clear understanding of the project’s scope and key deadlines. This approach is especially crucial in the pharmaceutical industry, where our expertise in Good Manufacturing Practice environments sets us apart. Our commitment to working closely with clients means we meet critical deadlines while minimising business disruptions.
• Maintaining Clear Communication Channels: Throughout the project, Wade establishes clear, transparent communication between the client, team, and suppliers. By driving the project from concept to completion with clear capital planning and risk management, we ensure everyone stays on the same page and fully informed, while maintaining our strong record of preventing lost time incidents, ensuring safety and efficiency at every stage.
• Collaborative Construction Management: Our approach to construction management is about more than just delivering projects. Our method leverages the power of the entire team and the supply chain to deliver projects faster and more efficiently than traditional models, without compromising safety, quality, or professionalism. We use proven methods that ensure clear vision and stakeholder involvement at every step.
• Client-Centric Approach: Having worked on both sides of the table— as both contractor and client— we understand what works best for each project. This dual perspective means we don’t just cooperate with the status quo, we truly collaborate, avoiding the common pitfall of simply following directives. Instead, we take an active, strategic role to enhance outcomes and deliver exceptional results. By assessing costs, running effective schedule management practices, and more, we ensure that the quality and overall delivery of each project are exceptional.
Looking Ahead
At Wade, collaboration and communication are the foundations of successful project delivery. Whether working in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, or large-scale construction, we ensure that all stakeholders are aligned, risks are managed, and the project runs smoothly. By placing collaboration at the forefront, Wade delivers projects with a focus on innovation, safety, and professionalism every time. If you’d like to find out how we can drive your project to completion, get in touch.
