We Built the World is a journey through the region’s history, innovation and culture, designed by the creative minds at Better. Located in the historic home of Bolckow and Vaughan, the agency is known for making brands around the world more distinctive, meaningful, and effective.
Honouring Teesside’s legacy while actively contributing to its future, We Built the World celebrates the landmarks, inventions and colloquialisms that have shaped the region. However, the project extends beyond design, with profits from every purchase feeding directly into the Better Communities Fund to support local causes and community organisations.
Amongst those partnerships, the agency is a proud patron of The Teesside Charity and 5th Wheel Members of the Headlight Project, helping to make a significant impact across the region. The fund has also directly supported organisations like Daisy Chain and Our Hospitals Charity, which have benefited from Better’s expertise in strategic brand thinking, design, and digital development.
Managing Director at Better, Mark Easby, said: “The team behind We Built the World is deeply rooted in Teesside, and Better’s commitment to the region goes beyond business. We were born and raised in the area, and We Built the World represents our passion for Teesside, its history, heritage and future. It’s a testament to our dedication to celebrating and supporting our local community.
“As part of our mission to build a better place to live, learn, and work, we donate over £30,000 worth of support annually. This project allows us to extend our impact beyond branding and design, empowering the local causes and purpose-driven champions that make a real difference in our community.”
Education and nurturing talent are also pillars of the agency’s community involvement, with activity backed by the community fund. Through partnerships with the likes of Teesside University and The Northern School of Art, Better is committed to developing the next generation of creatives and showcasing career opportunities across the Tees region. Their long-term involvement with the High Tide Foundation, Chaired by Mark, further reinforces their dedication to providing in-school and industry-led work experience opportunities for young people.
We Built the World’s collection of prints are made for anyone who appreciates accessible art and good design, with a fondness for the Tees region. Thoughtfully and individually designed by Better’s in-house team, they not only pay respect to the past but also ignite a sense of pride and possibility for the future.
John Taylor, Creative Director at Better, said: “We Built the World is a meticulously crafted visual journey that highlights Teesside’s pivotal role in shaping the world. Through a blend of historical reference points, regional dialect and contemporary design, we’re celebrating our pioneering spirit and unique character.
“It shows how art and design can be harnessed for the greater good, empowering local organisations and celebrating our rich history, as well as what’s to come.”
