Part of the German-based ethanol producer CropEnergies, Ensus operates one of the largest bioethanol production plants in Europe converting in excess of a million tons of grain per year into 400 litres of bioethanol for fuel. In addition, carbon dioxide is a by-product of its biofuel production with 40% of the UK’s carbon dioxide provided by the Teesside-based company. Keen to partner with a business with a proven track record of transferring from a previous incumbent and a thorough understanding of bioethanol plant, AXIOM were identified as the partner of choice.
With experience of bioethanol plants in the UK since 2014, AXIOM understand both process and damage mechanisms that can put plant at risk. With extensive knowledge, data-driven and digital resources available along with understanding of the bioethanol process, enabled AXIOM to optimise examination intervals and scope to ensure that plant operates safely, without excessive inspection workload.
Inspections of their Static Process Equipment and structures were also identified involving equipment falling within the scope of the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations and as part of the Ensus’ integrity management programme to control COMAH risks.
Ensus Operations Director Peter Kay said, I am delighted with the transition so far along with the commitment and professionalism demonstrated by AXIOM staff. The introduction of a fresh approach to our asset integrity operations has proved impactful as the team share their expertise and are eager to support our journey to meet key strategic objectives.”
Commercial Director, Peter Hunt added, “AXIOM have worked with Ensus for a number of years now and this long-term relationship continues to be strong as we work together on improving our client’s asset integrity management programme.”
Peter continued, “With the addition of AXIOM’s Process Safety consultancy offering, we are also able to deliver a value-added proposition which has been well received by clients who are seeking additional guidance and training in the management of hazardous materials.”
This contract is a further addition to AXIOM’s expanding portfolio of Inspection-driven contracts leading to a rapid recruitment of personnel who share AXIOM’s vision of engineering excellence.
