AEOC was originally obtained in 2019 as a result of concerns over congestion at UK ports for inbound and outbound shipments. It had become clear that the UK’s ageing IT system, known as CHIEF, was unable to hand the hundreds of thousands of additional Customs Declarations required due to BREXIT.
AEOC status means that a company’s exports and imports are given priority when passing through UK customs controls. HMRC allocates AEOC holders a lower risk score, requiring fewer checks on documents and goods. AEOC holders provide a simplified data set to Customs for their exports and imports in comparison to non-AEOC entities.
However, holding the AEOC status requires additional administration internally, and each business is expected to audit a proportion of its own import and export entries. In the case of AESSEAL, this equates to approximately 16,000 entries annually.
In 2022, AESSEAL’s combined on-time delivery to its global customer base was 96.07%. This exceeds the targets set within the business, and reflected the company’s excellent standard of customer service.
