Read more >We have been advised of bridge maintenance works that are due to commence shortly on the A1185 Seal Sands Link Road (see map below for exact location). These are essential maintenance works required to protect the structural integrity of the two road bridges and renew the road surface in this area.
The works are scheduled to commence on Monday 27 September 2021 and continue until Friday 17 December 2021. For the duration of the works the A1185 will be reduced to one lane with temporary traffic signals in place to control the flow of traffic. We do not envisage any significant delays to traffic whilst these signals are in place we will, however, ensure operatives are in place to manually control the flow of traffic if needed. In addition to the above traffic management, for one night during the period of 30 November to 2 December, there will be a full closure of the A1185 with a signed diversion route via the A178 and A689. The exact date of the overnight closure will be confirmed on site as the works progress.
These works will coincide with the introduction of an amendment to the environmental weight restriction on the A1046 Port Clarence Road which will come into effect just before Monday 27 September 2021. Any vehicles with a maximum gross vehicle weight of greater than 7.5t entering or leaving the Huntsman Drive area will be required to do so by using the A1185 and A178. When the amended weight restrictions are introduced it is likely that a period of education and enforcement will be undertaken, on the A1046 Port Clarence Road, by the relevant bodies.
