NEPIC is a not-for-profit organisation that supports the needs and interests of the processing sector in the North East of England. We exist to ensure industry in this region thrives – and that there
are investments, innovations and a network that have the potential to create jobs
and opportunities long into the future.
By working closely with member companies, we forge meaningful business relationships that allow us to identify opportunities, facilitate connections, promote collaboration and enable growth. We also actively work beyond our traditional stakeholder base with universities, research institutes and public bodies to leverage additional value for the sector.
The Process Industries of North East England are dynamic and successful and experiencing substantial growth. Since 2004, 83 process sector investment projects have been delivered in the region valued at £4.3 billion.
The region is home to the chemistry-using industries of chemicals, fine & speciality, petrochemicals, polymers and composites, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, bioresources, biofuels and renewable energy and low carbon materials.
There are more than 1,400 companies directly involved or in the supply chain of these industries, generating £26 billion of annual sales. Together they employ 190,000 people and the sector exports £12 billion each year – making this region the only net exporting region in the UK.

We enjoy some of the lowest commuting times in the UK because of its excellent transport links. This also makes it easy to access the diverse mix of city, countryside and coastal attractions that contribute so much to the quality of life.
The cities and main urban areas lie within easy reach of what is widely regarded as a nature lover’s playground. A third of the North East is, for example, designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its stunning moorlands, coastline, river valleys, lakes and forests are a paradise for walkers and outdoor sports enthusiasts.
The North East has all the right ingredients for businesses and people to excel.
