Thomas Swan is partnering with the Centre for Industry Education Collaboration (CIEC) to create a new resource to help primary children and their teachers understand the work done in industry to ensure a sustainable future.
CIEC’s Nicky Waller led a great session with representatives from Thomas Swan, Johnson Matthey, Croda, Quorn and Inovyn to start developing ideas relevant to each company’s story.
The workshop began with exploration of some of CIEC’s current problem-solving activities; followed by discussions focusing on what makes an activity engaging to 10-year olds, whilst providing good learning opportunities. Participants then spent time discussing some of their own sustainability practices and ideas for how these could be adapted into primary school activities.
Nicky Waller will now use her expertise to transform these ideas into a resource pack of activities which will link closely to the primary curriculum and be attractive to primary teachers and children.
Anyone interested in the development of these activities in relation to schools outreach, or similar developments for your own company should contact joy.parvin@york.ac.uk.
