Read more >The Materials Processing Institute has successfully renewed its ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 Quality and Environmental Management certifications.
The extensive audit, conducted over several days by UKAS accredited assessors LRQA, included a thorough examination of the Institute’s Teesside campus, covering its offices, laboratories, and production facilities.
First awarded to the Materials Processing Institute in October 2014, the certifications are internationally recognised benchmarks for quality and environmental management, and they have now been extended to October 2027, encompassing the provision of industrial research and development services for the materials, processing, and energy industries – including the manufacture of steel and alloy products.
The Materials Processing Institute is a national centre for research and innovation into advanced materials, industrial decarbonisation, the circular economy, and digital technologies, and a member of the Foundation Industries Sustainability Consortium (FISC) which runs the UKRI-funded EconoMISER Programme which supports the scale-up of sustainable technologies within the cement, metals, glass, paper, polymer and chemicals sectors.
In its report, the LRQA team concluded: “This Certificate Renewal Audit confirmed that the management system continues to be maintained, is effectively implemented and so recertification is recommended.”
The ISO 9001:2015 framework supports the non-profit making organisation’s commitment to continuous performance evaluation, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality products and services. Additionally, ISO 14001:2015 supports the ongoing assessment of environmental practices, reinforcing its undertaking to minimise environmental impact and enhance sustainability.
Terry Walsh, CEO said: “We are extremely pleased to have our LRQA quality and environmental management system renewed. This again shows we are investing in understanding our clients’ needs and working with them to deliver product and service excellence, whilst continuously reviewing the way we work in terms of environmental and operational considerations. This successful result has demonstrated again that we have excellent processes and systems in place.”
Carol Patton, the Institute’s Head of Business Services and leader of its Quality and Environmental Audit team, added: “Everyone can be proud of this achievement. We are committed to providing clients with the highest possible support and achieving this quality and environmental recertification is an important part of this. Providing high-quality services is fundamental to MPI’s continued success.”
