Read more >Malcolm Kidd is currently the regional head for Mitsubishi Chemical Group in EMEA and has worked all over the globe throughout his 35 years in industry, travelling to countries including Japan, Singapore, South Africa, China and USA, but he also has another very important role here on Teesside.
Malcolm has been a board director of NEPIC since 2020, aiding in steering the direction of NEPIC for the last four years. Bringing his expertise and fruitful knowledge of industrial clusters around the world to help drive our cluster to success.
Like many in the area, Malcolm’s early days in his career began with ICI, in process engineering and operations roles. He moved through a succession of commercial and business roles and now through ownership change, is in the Mitsubishi Chemical Group. Throughout these changes over the decades, the organisation has continued to be one of our key TIG members, with Malcolm maintaining a strong association with NEPIC which led him to his role on the board.
To this day Malcolm’s organisation is an invaluable supporter of NEPIC, for example donating the winners’ trophies each year for our NEPIC Annual Industry Awards, which are made from Mitsubishi Chemical Group’s MMA (methyl methacrylate) product.
Malcolm has been involved in key projects during his time with us including regional infrastructure projects and House of Commons visits, aiming to present a strong image of the cluster to wider stakeholders and potential investors.
When asked what difference NEPIC makes to the region, Malcolm said:
“NEPIC has the ability to represent the whole industry on an impartial level and recognises the scale and diversity it can bring to our area. It provides a voice for industry in the region, creating platforms and forums, debates and discussions, bringing people together for important projects that might not otherwise be possible without an organisation without NEPIC.”
Continually proud of the work NEPIC achieves he then went on to say:
“I’m honoured I get the opportunity to guide NEPIC forward, although we may only have a small team, our board of directors and the NEPIC in-house team work so well cohesively. We’re a strong unit that make decisions ultimately to benefit our members in the best way possible.
“Our board isn’t like others, we’re not a board that’s never seen or heard, we’re led by industry and our directors come from the local business community, and that’s the difference, we are so strongly invested in the best interests of the cluster.”
“I’d encourage those in industry to become a member. Our membership gives you a breadth of understanding of the region and the excellent companies that are here, access to a superb network and events on specialist topics, allowing you to understand the opportunities that are available, including what organisations are looking for in terms of skills and key projects are happening in the area.”
