Read more >This announcement on UK REACH UK REACH: alternative transitional registration model (ATRm) – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)is a welcome signal from Government of its ambition for the future of chemical regulation.
Today’s statement outlines an approach for a more forward looking and targeted UK REACH regime. In particular, we support the plans to consult on reducing to an essential minimum the hazard information requirements for transitional registrations and reviewing the existing fees structure for UK REACH. We believe these commitments could not only significantly reduce the anticipated £2 billion cost of duplicating work already undertaken by UK industry for EU REACH purposes, but also strengthen health and environmental protection and outcomes, through more targeted regulation and focused resource.
As ever with REACH the devil is in the detail. We look forward to working alongside all key stakeholders including Government to fully understand the implications of today’s announcement and next steps, leading to formal consultation and the introduction of future legislation.
