Job title: Innovate UK Project Lead – Circular Economy
Contract type: Full time, temporary – 18 months
Salary: £38,000-£42,000 per year depending on qualifications/experience
Location: Sunderland or Wilton Centre – Teesside with hybrid working available
Closing Date: All applications before the closing date of 05/05/2023 will be considered.
The Purpose of this Role:
The process industries are on a journey towards Net Zero, and circular economy is essential in the production of sustainable chemicals. The North East of England Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC) and Teesside University have been awarded a grant by Innovate UK to investigate the production of sustainable olefins, which are essential building blocks within the chemical industry. Sustainable olefins refer to chemicals used in manufacture and processing, but whose source is not derived from petrochemicals. Engagement with a range of stakeholders will be required to assess feedstock, process and economic viability of new opportunities, resulting in the production of a detailed strategic roadmap, to determine routes to olefin production within Teesside.
Our Ideal Candidate:
The successful candidate will have the skills to carry out detailed Technoeconomic Analyses (TEAs) and Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs), ideally with previous experience in projects relating to the chemical manufacturing industry. It is essential for the candidate to have highly developed data processing and analytical skills, and a background in a scientific discipline would be desirable. The candidate should have an engaging and enthusiastic personality, together with the ability to prioritise between competing priorities. The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders is important, as this project will require engagement with NEPIC’s wide reaching and varied membership. The nature of the role requires the successful candidate to collaborate within a team and as an individual, proactively using their initiative.
