Read more >Inefficient lighting has slowly been phased out of the UK & EU marketplace as part of the wider global plan to tackle climate change. Back in 2018 the UK government made the decision to end the sale of halogen lightbulbs, with these bulbs for general household use in the UK banned from September 2021.
High energy fluorescent lightbulbs are next to follow suit, with all T5 and T8 fluorescent lamps being banned in the UK & EU from 2023. From September 2023, all halogen pins (G4, GY6.35 and G9) will be prohibited from being placed on the market.
T5 and T8 fluorescent lamps and compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) have been popular lighting options globally since their widespread adoption in the 1980s but have been put under the microscope in recent years due to their high energy consumption.
The below article outlines the new changes happening this year and how Thorne & Derrick together with Raytec can help you plan ahead to minimise the impacts of the fluorescent lighting ban.
