Read more >The entire IMH team is extremely delighted and proud to celebrate in the accomplishments of our trainee hydraulic technician, Hugo Abrol.
Hugo joined IMH as an apprentice in 2018 receiving a mixture of both college learning with NETA and hands-on experience with IMH.
Through his four-year apprenticeship, Hugo has completed training around the installation, commissioning, fault-finding, service and repair, retrofits and upgrades on complete hydraulic systems. Hugo also has worked on individual components such as pumps, valves and cylinders.
Hugo has taken full advantage of the opportunities that have been made available to him through his apprenticeship. We have customers across the UK and worldwide, and once Hugo was 18 he was able to attend customer sites with the team to gain further on-the-job experience.
In addition, he conducted fault finding, as when you are sent to a clients’ site in response to a breakdown or failure you don’t always know the full extent of the issue until you arrive. For our trainees this provides a great learning opportunity for them to put into practice a lot of the theory they have learnt..
This included being part of the site acceptance testing phase team of the Boston Barrier in Lincoln. The Boston Barrier is a flood defence barrier that was commissioned in response to horrific flooding in the town of Boston in 2013.
Hugo was part of the team from IMH who were involved in testing the barriers’ capabilities to move into defence position within just 20 minutes. The ability to work on a client site is not only a great way to gain more experience but it also provides travel opportunities to areas that you may not otherwise be able to visit.
Hugo Abrol, trainee mechanical engineer, at IMH commented: “I’m so grateful to IMH for the opportunity to learn and grow with them. Everyone has been so supportive and willing to spend time with me as I learn new skills.
“I certainly feel I took full advantage of everything put my way which has really helped me to get invaluable hands-on experience.
“IMH is a great company, with lots of dedicated people to learn from, and the different roles I’ve had has provided me with a lot of versatile experience I can draw upon.”
Ian Bannister, engineering manager at IMH, added: “We are all so very proud of Hugo completing his apprenticeship. And we are delighted that he will be continuing to work with the company.
“He is a valued member of the IMH family and we look forward to watching his progression as a talented and knowledgeable engineer.”
