In January, Newcastle-based Houghton International was named SME of the Year by MAKE UK, the representative body for UK manufacturing. The electromechanical engineering specialist is now recruiting for a number of roles in sales, business development and marketing.
SME of the Year is awarded to businesses who have shown “exceptional initiative, boldness and dynamism, as well as exemplary management practices.” Houghton International was commended by judges for demonstrating such criteria through their considerable investment in employees, offering a range of training and development opportunities as well as a range of staff benefits including a ‘Sharing Success’ staff bonus scheme.
Michael Mitten, CEO of Houghton International, commented: “It’s an exciting time for Houghton International. Throughout the pandemic, and for many years prior, we have continued to invest in our people and our business. In 2020 we expanded into our world-class, 120,000 sq ft Ronnie Mitten Works site, and demand for our services is increasing month-on-month. Taking home SME of the Year at the MAKE UK Awards was the cherry on the top – and a great endorsement from those at forefront of the manufacturing industry.
“Now is the time for us to invest in the future, and to do that we need exceptional people. As the world continues to electrify and decarbonise, demand for our services will only continue to grow. This is a great opportunity to be part of an industry that is growing and changing at rapid pace.”
Specialising in the monitoring, maintenance, repair and life extension of electromechanical assets around the world, Houghton International operates across a range of sectors including power generation, water, rail and industrial and manufacturing.
