Our growing Intellectual Property Commercialisation team is a partner in the Northern Accelerator programme which is driving a step change in research commercialisation.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and engaged colleague to join our small, flexible and supportive team. The ideal candidate will be experienced in identifying research with commercial potential; evaluating the Intellectual Property position, supporting patenting where appropriate and structuring development plans to move the research towards commercialisation.
The IP and Commercialisation Managers report directly to the Director of Research and Innovation. Team members are required to work collaboratively, demonstrate high levels of client focus along with the ability to innovate. As a member of a small team, you must be able to work flexibly and in complex situations.
The post-holder will work within the IP and Impact team, alongside the existing IP Commercialisation Managers, to manage and commercialise the diverse IP portfolio created at Northumbria University. You must have the ability to proactively lead your own projects and work collaboratively with colleagues. The role also contributes to the training and development of academic colleagues in areas related to IP commercialisation.
This post directly contributes to the University’s partnership in the Northern Accelerator CCF programme. The post holder will collaborate with academic colleagues to shape opportunities into applications for Feasibility Awards and Proof of Concept Awards.
You will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) preferably in engineering or science-based discipline. You will have experience of business development and in the management and commercialisation of Intellectual Property. With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will be comfortable in working with colleagues from all levels and have experience in deal making and negotiation. Experience in raising finance is not essential but would be an advantage.
