Would your local primary school like to be crowned the NEPIC-BOC Primary School Environmental Award winner 2021, and secure £2,000 to fund a school environmental project?

Applications are now being welcomed from schools across the region who would like to take an environmental project from paper to reality.

We have received many fantastic winning entries over the years that span projects supporting the development of outdoor learning environments, in-school recycling and reuse programmes, as well as projects that seek to preserve local habitats that offer vital extensions to the classroom and curriculum.

We appreciate how challenging the past year has been for schools. Additional funding is essential, however, time is more precious than ever as schools see pupils return to the classroom on Monday 8th March.

Whilst the application criteria below sets out the three steps to creating and submitting a project entry, our judges will take into consideration time and resource challenges faced by schools and do not wish for the suggested process to deter them for putting forward their ideas and being in with a chance of winning this fabulous award!

About the Award

Win £2,000 to take your school environmental studies from paper to project. Apply today and you could be crowned the 2021 North East Primary School Environmental Award winner and bring your school’s project to life.

The objective of the BOC School Environmental Award is to encourage environmental awareness & action of pupils by exploring & suggesting an environmentally themed project that could be delivered with the award of a £2000 prize.

A cheque for £2000 will be awarded to the school with the winning idea to fund the project at the NEPIC Industry Awards Celebration event on the afternoon of Thursday 22 April 2021.

INGLEBY MILL PRIMARY SCHOOL
Outdoor Learning Environment Project

Ingleby Mill Primary boasted a fabulous outdoor learning environment, however, it wasn’t being fully utilised so pupils set to task to plan an area that made us all want to return to school.

LINGEY HOUSE PRIMARY SCHOOL
Saving the Water Voles

Lingey House Primary pupils were on a mission to save the water voles at a nearby park through the re-education of its visitors. In doing so, they saved the water voles, deterred the pesky rats and helped to protect a valuable teaching resource.

Award Criteria – three easy steps to apply

1. A teacher suggests an environmentally themed project for a group of children, a whole class or the whole school (up to 11 years old). Typical projects might be, for example, a wildlife garden, a tree planting exercise, a field study that might require some materials or other costs, a recycling project, or bike racks to encourage parents and children to cycle to school – it’s up to you!

2. The teacher writes a short description of the project idea and a rough breakdown of how the £2000 would be spent. Key emphasis should be made on how the children will be involved in the project and how they and the environment would benefit.

3. Submit the application to NEPIC – maximum of 400 words. Additional creative information in the form of photos, videos, children’s work may also be included. We also ask that the application is supported by a letter from the Head validating that funding will be ring fenced for this project.
