Teesside International has revealed that it has signed a deal with one of the UK’s leading aviation support businesses to bring their expertise to the airport and establish a new office on the site.

Cyrrus is expanding its operations to the airport, with its office focused on services designing airspace take-off and landing route plans, as well as its airport safeguarding.

As part of the partnership, Cyrrus will create three new highly skilled roles in its business and lend its expertise to the airport by providing support managing the 215 cubic miles of airspace that the airport’s air traffic control team are responsible for.

With significant experience in airport development, the firm will also help ensure that all of the extra flight activity associated with the airport’s ambitious ten-year turnaround plan is smoothly and seamlessly integrated with the current systems.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said:

“This is yet another vote of confidence in our airport. I’ve always said for our airport to be the success we all want it to be, it has to be about more than summer holiday flights and business connections, as important as these are.

“This announcement once again shows the huge potential our airport has.

“Not only is Cyrrus expanding and opening a new office, it will also work with our amazing and hugely talented air traffic control team to help them manage Teesside International’s airspace. It will also provide another string to our bow for other aviation businesses looking to base themselves at our airport.

“Bringing more businesses to our airport is a key part of my plan for jobs, a plan that is creating good-quality, well-paid jobs for people from across Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool.

“As we recover and restore our way of life, this is even more important. And I’m keeping up the progress, diggers are already working on a site the size of 270 football pitches building a new business park at our airport.

“This will put our area on the map as an international destination for new jobs, especially if we are successful in our Freeport bid.

“Plus, global aviation firm Willis Asset Management now has their European maintenance hub for some of the biggest airlines in the world up and running at our airport with the first planes already here.

“This deal will do for our operations what our massive terminal redevelopment is doing for the passenger experience in making the airport fit for the 21st century and beyond, and I look forward to a long, productive partnership.”
