Read more >Times are changing and more women than ever are situated in STEM roles.
Over the last decade, the number of women in science professional roles has risen by over 5,000.
We caught up with Molly Conroy-Oakes, Laboratory Analyst for GSK, and listened to her thoughts on female role models in STEM.
Here’s what Molly had to say…
Why did you choose a career path in STEM?
I enjoy being able apply the scientific knowledge from my degree to on the job situations.
It’s great to see the positive impact science has on patients and consumers across the globe and contributing towards this through my role at GSK is what makes STEM career so rewarding.
What piece of advice would you give to young women who are thinking of going into a career like yours?
I’d encourage them not to be put off!
It might seem daunting to work in a male-dominated sector, but things are definitely changing and having more female role models can only be a good thing.
I’ve had nothing but support and encouragement from everyone – both men and women, so if it’s what you want then go for it!
What does being a woman in STEM mean to you?
I feel immensely proud to be a woman working in STEM.
My work helps to ensure that patients receive lifesaving medicines and it’s thanks to STEM that this can be achieved.
