The member companies assisted will be in the pharmaceutical, specialty chemicals and bioprocessing sectors and their supply chains.
The IM will also be the main link between NEPIC and CPI ensuring that the pharmaceutical and bioprocessing expertise and capabilities in the Catapult is leveraged for the benefit of NEPIC members. This expertise covers formulation and materials chemistry, biologics, biotechnology, printable and flexible hybrid electronics and general pharmaceutical processing capabilities within the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre.
The NEPIC Innovation Manager will be co-located with award winning cluster organisation, NEPIC. The role is part funded by CPI and Innovation Super Network and is high profile, externally focused and brings the potential to have a major economic impact upon our region.
The successful candidate will have a background in pharmaceutical manufacturing, and/or possibly biotechnology, so that they can appreciate the challenges of innovating in a highly regulated environment. They will have an engineering or science degree but above all, be an engaging and enthusiastic personality. Highly developed communication skills will also be required.
We are an award winning membership organisation working with the chemical-using industries in the North East of England. Privately-owned and led by industry, we work to support our member companies to become successful and sustainable organisations in a collaborative business environment that helps them to grow.
We cover a broad sweep of chemistry focused industries including petrochemicals, polymers & materials, fine & specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and renewables – and with our members and industry leads, work to build upon the already powerful industrial base located here to make this region one of the most competitive and successful chemical-processing locations in Europe.
Formed in 2004, NEPIC was the result of the merger of two industry bodies – the Teesside Chemical Initiative, who represented the heavy base chemical in the south of the region, and the P&S Cluster who worked with the pharmaceutical and life science businesses that were predominately based towards the north.
The Innovation SuperNetwork is a unique regional programme, helping to cultivate a stronger innovation eco-system in the North East of England and support innovative businesses. The programme works through a partnership of around 60 organisations, including the North East LEP, Innovate UK, North East BIC, Northumbrian Water, Reece Innovation, Engie, local universities and colleges, innovation support organisations and private businesses. The SuperNetwork is part-funded through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The programme is expanding to include support delivered through cluster organisations and business groups, ensuring that innovation support is available to a much wider range of businesses than can currently access it. In addition, we are working closely with partners on increasing the level of support available in the region for open and collaborative innovation projects.
The primary way we deliver innovation support activity is through Innovation Managers. These are highly experienced individuals with an in-depth understanding of innovation in practice. All have a relevant background (science, technology, engineering) combined with commercial experience. All are driven by a desire to see the region thrive through applied innovation.
