Former NEPIC chief executive, Dr Stan Higgins, has been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2018 New Year Honours List, recognising his work promoting the UK chemical process manufacturing industry.
Dr Higgins, who retired in the summer of 2017, said;
“I am delighted to receive this unexpected Honour. I recognise that it is an accolade reached by standing on the shoulders of many mentors and colleagues that have encouraged me throughout my 48 years in the industry.
“There have been mentors from across the chemical industry that guided my career; colleagues in the NEPIC team & membership who have supported me and worked selflessly on behalf of the chemical process sector; and there are the Professors & Tutors at York University who made chemistry come to life for me. I am grateful to all of them for their support and guidance throughout my career.”
Stan is an Honorary Fellow of the University of York, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Associate Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers.
Since his retirement, Stan has taken up non-executive director positions at Industrial Technology Systems, NEPIC and RTC North and is working with industry firms Tradebe and SAS–JMP.
In November 2017, Stan received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Chemical Industries Association for his contribution to the sector. He was educated at Whitehaven Grammar School, West Cumberland College and The University of York.
